“Niagara of the South”

Cumberland Falls forms a 125’ wide curtain of roaring water that plunges 60’ into the boulder-strewn gorge below. The mist of the Cumberland Falls creates the magic of the moonbow, only visible on a clear night during a full moon. This unique phenomenon appears nowhere else in the Western Hemisphere.

“A Natural Wonder”

McCreary County is home to numerous natural arches and rock formations. Natural Arch Recreation Area is home to the most popular and accessible natural arch in McCreary county. The recreation area includes a concrete trail system, picnic sites, drinking fountains, playground, horseshoe pits, grill areas picnic shelters and amphitheater. The arch itself is an impressive rock shelter natural arch with a semi-circular opening. It is 100 feet wide, 44 feet high and about 25  feet thick.

“Your Return Ticket to History off the Beaten Track”

Operated on seven miles of historic trackage once owned by the famed K&T Railway. This trip is full of spectacular scenic vistas, lush vegetation and mountain streams. Sit back and enjoy the wide open vistas, roaring rivers, and the history and charm of Appalachia, as we transport you back in time to our halfway point- the Barthell Coal Camp, the sight of the Stearns Company’s Mines 1 and 2, and, today, privately owned and renovated by the Koger Family. Your ticket also includes admission to the McCreary County Museum in Stearns.  Open: April—December.
